FMS Delhi – Fees, Courses, Reviews, Admission Process

Faculty of Management Studies (FMS Delhi) , also known as The Red Building of Dreams was established in the year 1954 and is one of the best business school located in New Delhi, India running under the patronage of the University of Delhi.

FMS Delhi is not just about imparting business management concepts, rather proves itself as  a hub to management learning. The focus of the institute is not simply on ‘teaching’ but ‘learning’. With business education at the focal point, the institute has been playing a pioneering role in building and promoting professional management practices with an effective mechanism that can lead a way of creating innovative and ethical future leaders, who can effortlessly handle change and transformation in today’s  environment, which is chock-full of competitions and challenges.

At present, FMS Delhi offers the following programs –

  1. Master of Business Administration (MBA) –

 It is a 2 years full time , Post Graduate Management programme.

  1.  Master of Business Administration (MBA) –  Executive

 It is a full time , evening programme .

  1.  Master of Business Administration (MBA) –  Executive (Health Care Administration)

  It is a 2 years executive evening programme

  1. A Doctoral Programme

  A full time doctoral programme that encourages fresh research in objective topics.


MBA in FMS Delhi –  

During the streamlined core period of 2 years, it gives the students an edge over the other MBA graduates. The programme aims at building an entrepreneurial mindset, and mastering business fundamentals with an integrated management perspective in the first year of the curriculum that concludes with a rigorous summer internship that allows the students to invest deeply in understanding the practicalities and proactively  positioning themselves in order to make a contribution in their future profession. The second year is shaped by the first year’s summer internship and the students gets the opportunity to evaluate their own experience. Full time renowned educators and business experts with a mix of adjunct faculties form an important pillar of the institution, who teach 22 core courses and over 78 elective courses.

The MBA programme nurtures your skills and specialises in converting your expertise to  business leadership positions.


The course design of the two year MBA Executive and MBA Executive  (Health Care Administration ) Programmes are framed into a total of 4 semesters over a period of 2 years so as to create the base of the students in terms of clearing the concepts related to the basic areas of management studies. Over the period, the students get the required idea of their personal choice of the area in which they can specialise for further education.

The first year of these 2 programmes introduces the students to the role of Creative problem solving and strategic thinking and to learn about leadership  and communication skills. Students spend a great deal of time in struggling with the transition. In the second year, the students get the opportunity to commit themselves to  their professional development plans with the help of their first year’s learning and past managerial experiences. The overall learning process in the institute is accelerated by the interactions with world renowned faculties and corporate big names  who intensifies a 360 degree learning, so that their students can move on to get hold of the bests opportunities in the corporate world.

The focus of the institute is to contribute to the development of Management Education in all its aspects  and to establish a standard training and a cut-edge research environment for its student, identifying the factors such as new technology, globalisation and sustainability  that influence the world economy. Accordingly, it employs a dynamic approach to educate and at the same time, meet the emerging trends and qualify the students with the revolutionary skills needed to challenge the conventional wisdom and make path breaking innovations. In the world of variations, it believes that  only the ability to create team spirit, and the eagerness to learn without limitations, and continuous self improvising can make its students build a strong and diverse professional network . Working executives are required to 7 core or elective courses or a combination of both in every semester. In the first year, management fundamental papers like Human Resource, Organizational Behaviour, Marketing  Management, Managerial Finance, Quantitative methods, Managing Information Technology concentrates on imparting knowledge on the technical, social, economic and human side of management. Guest lectures, field studies , workshops , live project sessions and many other such activities ensure that the executive learns the practicality of the theoretical knowledge that they gain in the classroom learning sessions. These two programmes basically has two objectives : one, forming a clear concept foundation for the students, and  introducing them to the tools and models so that they can get adept to the new environment which is challenging and highly competitive and , two, giving them the opportunity to understand and mould their MBA experience as per their own choice, which can be rightly called as “academic flexibility” .


The programmes have been divided into two parts, each part consisting of two semesters with a total of 1120 contact hours , built in to 19 core courses  and 9 elective courses.

A Doctoral Programme

The Faculty of Management Studies provides a full time doctoral programme that offer students  various opportunities for advanced studies and research in different areas and aspects of management science. The programme aims to encourage the students to undertake research in interdisciplinary areas and prepare them for careers in teaching and management studies as well as  for careers in other industry or Government projects that require advanced analytical and cross-cutting research capabilities. The students are selected in different study areas such as Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Management of Information Technology, Financial Management, Strategic Management, Production and Operations Management, Organizational Behaviour and Managerial Economics.



Candidates applying for admission to the MBA programme  must have pursued a Bachelor’s Degree programme after twelve years of formal schooling with at least 50% marks at the graduation level (SC/ST: Passing marks; OBC/PWD/CW: 45% as per university rules) or equivalent CGPA.  Candidates appearing for the final year bachelor’s degree / equivalent qualification examination or are awaiting results can also apply, irrespective of their last examination percentage, provided that they fulfil the required eligibility criteria when their results are declared,  for which documents should be provided at the time of admission to the programme.

MBA – Executive (Evening)

Candidates applying for admission to the MBA -Executive (Evening) course should have           pursued at least a three-year Bachelor’s Degree programme after twelve years of formal schooling, having secured minimum 45% aggregate marks or equivalent.  The candidates should have at least five years of experience as an executive or an administrator in a commercial / government establishment / registered organization after passing the Bachelor’s degree examination. Experience shall be determined as on 1st April of the year of admission. Candidates should be either sponsored or they must produce a “No Objection Certificate” programme from his / her present employer.

For MBA – Executive (Health Care Administration)

Candidates applying for the admission to the MBA – Executive (Health Care Administration)  must have a Bachelor degree having secured minimum 45% aggregate marks or equivalent grades in any discipline such as Medicine (MBBS)/ Dentistry (BDS)/ Biotechnology/ Genomics/ Genetics/ Nursing/ Bioengineering/ Alternative Systems/ of Medicine/ Paramedical Discipline/ Pharmacology/ Anthropology/ Zoology or an examination recognised as equivalent. The candidate should have at least five years of experience as an executive or an administrator in a commercial/Industrial/government establishment/registered organization after acquiring the Bachelor degree excluding any internship. The duration of Experience is determined as on the 1st  April of the year of admission. Candidate should be either sponsored or they must produce a “No Objection Certificate” from his/her present employer.


Candidates applying for the admission in to the Doctoral Programme  must have obtained a Master’s / M.Phil. degree from the University of Delhi, or any other recognized University, or a Post-graduate Degree in a related subject equivalent there of securing a minimum of 55% marks. Those candidates having a MBA / Master’s Degree in an allied subject from University of Delhi or equivalent would be required to appear for  CAT exam for admission to the Ph.D. programme. Such applicants must have a minimum experience of two years post their MBA/Master’s Degree on the date of writing the admission test. Those candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree of duration of four years or more, that is B.Tech. or MBBS who have obtained a minimum of 70% and 60% marks or equivalent grades respectively, and also  who have obtained any national level fellowships, are eligible to apply for the Ph.D. programme. Also, permanent faculties of any recognized University or College (other than the University of Delhi), and employees of a Research Institute in India and those candidates who are sponsored by their employers will be considered for admission to the Ph.D. programme only if they obtain study leave for a period of two years to fulfil the residency requirements of the Ph.D. programme of the University of Delhi.


For MBA Full Time Programme

To grab a seat in the MBA programme, the candidate has to go through 2 rounds of selection. They are :

  1. Appearing in the CAT exam under the IIMs .
  2. On clearing the exam with the required cut off/score, he/she has to go for the second round which comprises of Extempore speech, Group Discussion and lastly, Personal Interview.

International candidates should apply through the office of the Deputy Dean (Foreign Students), University of Delhi

MBA Executive (Evening) and MBA – Executive (Health Care Administration) Programme

For the MBA Executive (Evening) programme and MBA – Executive Health Care Administration , the candidate has do the following :

  1. Apply for the seat and get shortlisted.
  2. Sit for the Written Ability Test (WAT) on management aptitude and general awareness and then appear in Personal Interview (PI) round .

The final selection is done on the basis of the WAT and PI, however, executive work experience, academic result (Graduation marks)  of the candidate are also counted in the process.

For Doctoral Programme

For the Doctoral Programme, the following procedure is followed-

1 .Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme through an advertisement. The selected candidates are required to seat for the CAT examination.

  1. The shortlisted candidates have to submit their registration forms to the Board of Research Studies (Management) , at FMS .
  2. Before the final selection , the shortlisted candidates has to appear for the last round , that is the personal interview .

  The Fee Structure

As per the latest information bulletin (year 2018) of the institution:

For the MBA Programme, the application fee is Rs. 1000 for General category candidates and Rs. 350 for SC, ST and PWD candidates. The annual fee is approximately Rs. 10,000 (hostel fee excluded)

For  MBA Executive (Evening) programme and MBA – Executive (Health Care Administration) programme  the annual fee payable is Rs. 50,000 plus Rs. 1000 (Library fee) that can be paid in two equal instalments

For the Doctoral Programme, an online registration fee of Rs. 1000 is to be paid by the candidates. The annual fee payable is approximately  Rs. 10500 (hostel fee excluded) .

Placement record of FMS in a glimpse

As per the latest placement report , FMS Delhi makes a record of placing 215 out of 215 students who appeared for interview in the final placement process for the MBA batch of 2018.  With a marginal increase, the average salary is of Rs. 21.1 Lacs Per Annum, sales and marketing being the highest recruiting domain, followed by E-commerce and Finance sectors. Top recruiters at FMS Delhi in placement 2018 include Asian Paints, EY Consulting; Accenture Strategy; ITC, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, Axis Bank, L&T, Tata Steel, Amazon, WIPRO, TCS, Godrej, TAS and others.

A few suggestions for the candidates to stand out in the FMS interview process :

  1. Do not forget to carry all the necessary documents (and its photo state copies ) for any possible reference.
  2. Be the smartest candidate in the group discussion.
  3.  Extempore speech session is to test your presence of mind. Don’t fail to prove yourself at this round.
  4.  In the Personal Interview, the right amount of confidence should be reflected on your face.
